The Cuff and Display come as one unit on a Wrist Fitting Blood Pressure Monitor.
It also includes APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor)
The advantage of this type of monitor is that anyone with large arm circumference can still use this, providing their wrist size is between 5.25 and 8.5 inches.

Display Unit

The LCD Display is easy to read due to it's ample size.
Systolic (on the Heartbeat) Diastolic (Heart at rest) Heartbeat and Time & Date data is displayed.
Some of the functions are indicated by symbols and include:

      Irregular Heartbeat
      Cuff Deflation
      Right Wrist Measurement
      Position Sensor Alarm
      Low Battery Alert

Error messages can be identified by an "E" at the top of the display. Look in the User Manual to see what has caused an error and how it can be cleared.

Irregular Heartbeat

The Omron HEM-650 has the ability to detect an Irregular Heartbeat.
This occurs when 2 or more sporadic Heart Rhythms are detected during a measurement phase. An increase or decrease of the Heartbeat by 25% is judged as abnormal.
It would be sensible to tell your Doctor if the Irregular Heart Beat Symbol is displayed with any of the readings.

Although the Omron HEM-650 can be used on the Left or Right wrist to take measurements, in order to keep the readings consistent, use the same wrist for all readings. The Right Wrist Measurement needs to be selected if you want to use the Right Wrist. The letter "R" in the display bottom LHS indicates this mode.

IntelliSense is a technology, exclusive to Omron, that is built into the unit. The Cuff is automatically inflated to a level that gives the best comfort and accuracy of reading. The Cuff is deflated when the reading is completed.

The Omron HEM-650 has the accuracy that can be expected from any of the Omron Blood Pressure Monitors. An averaging system is built into the unit, to get the best possible readings. Up to three measurements taken within 10 minutes of the last reading can be utilised in the Averaging calculation.

Up to 90 readings with Time & Date Stamps can be stored on this unit.
Any of these readings can be examined on the LCD display, starting with the newest readings, towards the oldest.

Advanced Positioning Sensor

The Advanced Positioning Sensor is one of the best features on the Omron HEM-650.
This device has the ability to detect that the monitor is correctly positioned at the same level as the heart.
The Cuff will not inflate and therefore a reading cannot be taken unless the monitor is at the right level. The Cuff will begin to inflate as soon as the arm is moved into the correct position.

Conclusion

Due to the accuracy of an Upper Arm fitting device, most people looking to buy a Blood Pressure Monitor would select this type of unit.
For someone who spends a lot of time on the road then the Upper Arm fitting may not be so convenient, and the Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor could be the better choice for a portable environment.
The Omron HEM-650 wrist Blood Pressure Monitor has all of the consistency and accuracy of more expensive models, due to Omron technology, including the Advanced Positioning Sensor, and is worth considering.
